It is very important to eat three meals a day. Your family’s meals should include a variety of fruits, veggies, fish, lean meats, grains, cereals, and dairy products. It is completely normal for children and adults to get hungry between meals. That’s why snack were invented!
It’s okay to snack, as long as you snack smart. Snacks provide the body with a boost of energy between meals. Snacks and junk food are not the same thing. Instead of stocking your pantry with chips, cookies, and sodas, try these items:
- Fresh fruit
- Apples with peanut butter
- Cut up veggies with dipping sauces
- Whole-grain crackers
- Rice cakes
- Dried fruits, nuts, seeds, or trail mix
- Cookies made from real fruit or fruit juice
- Smoothies made from fresh fruit, yogurt and sorbet
- Baked snack chips
- Hummus and pita bread
- Yogurt
- Cheese cubes and crackers
- Celery and Peanut Butter
